Class 2a once again participated in nature activities as
part of the Green EcoAcademy project. This time the pupils created their own
natural batteries! They used lemons, potatoes, Cu and Zn electrodes. The
children learned that fruit and vegetable juice can conduct electricity because
it is an electrolyte - this means that there are ions in it that carry
electricity. The second-graders listened with interest to Ms Marlena's
instructions, followed the instructions, and were rewarded for their patience and
concentration with correctly constructed circuits and working fruit and
vegetable clocks.
